Today was just wonderful, I spent five hours at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. I took loads of photos, spent lots of money and even got to meet Don Burke! As there are so many photos to share with you I have put them into mini mosaics.
These first four inspired me so much, I love the bromeliads and the copper water features, they will definitely be on my list of things to put in the new fernery we are planning.

These beauties all took my breath away and I just couldn’t stop snapping away at them.

This beautiful Asian garden won 1st prize in the eco garden design competition.

More beautiful and unusual garden designs. Note that the first design is purely black and white, very clever.

This small garden won 1st prize in the student garden design section, very nice and once again on my wish list for my own garden.

I had a really wonderful day at the show but the highlight for me had to be when I was given a beautiful bucket of free chook poo, yep my very own bucket of chook poo! Now I know that has you all asking “why on earth would she be excited about that?” Well I was given the free chook poo by none other than Don Burke himself, he’s number one in my book for garden stuff and a very nice man indeed.

And so my day at the show ends, it was wonderful and I can’t wait to get into the garden and start getting it all ready for the long winter ahead.
The ripple blanket is now up to 50 rows! I hope to do about 50 rows a week and that should have it finished within one month, now that’s a challenge.

Okay. Here I was, all excited about the flowers and the photos and those gorgeous, gorgeous gardens. Not to mention the incredible waterfalls. (You wouldn’t believe what I had to go through to get my husband to okay a water fountain!!!) Color me an American. What is chook poo? Uh, I would guess it’s manure, but beyond that I am totally lost.

LOL Pam, chook poo is chicken poop, very good for your garden but smells terrible.

Thank you for the explanation. I’m really not as dense as I appear. I did have the poop figured out, after all. Thought perhaps you had a breed of critter I hadn’t heard of.

Lovely gardens Maddy! I love to look at gardens and take photos of flowers and such. I am not such a dab hand at caring for my own though. Todd does all the hard work! I’m much too busy cooking, both at work and at home, but I do enjoy looking!!

Am a big fan of chicken manure. Great for sprinkling on daffodils after they have flowered. Don’t suppose you get many in Melbourne at this time of year!

completely awesome - I love the chicken poop story - I suppose your Don Burke chappie is the equivalent of Monty Don (same name there ) to us - if he gave me a bucket of chicken poop I would frame it - that is - after i had been revived from having swooned with lust! ha ha ha!!!
wonderful garden inspiration!!
go for it Maddy!
