1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, skip two … Oh sorry, just doing another row. I’ve been hard at it since last I blogged, in fact I have a very sore thumb due to my many hours of crochet yesterday.
At the craft shop I was extremely fortunate and found a table dedicated to discounted wool, hooks and knitting needles. I got a hook for $1 and my 20 balls of wool totalled $28, which I thought was fantastic value considering some wool was over $5 a ball! What’s with that then? My mum was a little perplexed that I had no pattern, no idea of sizes or quantities and that I was going in blind, but that’s just how I like to approach things “flying by the seat of my pants”.
I first followed a couple of You Tube tutorials and then did some myself, pulling it out every few minutes to get it perfect. I soon realised that I did the first row using a double crochet and the second a single. PULL IT OUT AGAIN! Then by the fourth go I had the hang of it all. I then found a lovely, very simple pattern and I was away.
My husband and I are such lovebirds. There we were, Saturday night, the kids are in bed and he’s battling some aliens on the Xbox and I am madly crocheting like a woman possessed. I got to bed around 2.30 this morning and, I tell you what, I’m going to pay for it this afternoon when I won’t be able to keep my eyes open.
So here for your viewing pleasure are my efforts so far, I’ve done a whopping 12 rows!

You go girl! It looks wonderful. Although, I usually do afghans in winter to help keep the chill off my legs. But if you can do it when it’s warm/hot, more power to you. Maybe you should have a row counter on your blog so we can keep track of what you’ve done. Nothing like a little prodding from the outside world, eh?

Wow! I’ve been looking at those patterns for crocheted rugs and trying to restrain myself.

Oh WOW Maddy!!! You go girl!! I am sooo impressed with your ripple start, not to mention the 2.30am bedtime.
I had to laugh because my time to ripple is usually in the evenings when children are in bed too (I try to do one colour/two rows a night). Hubby and I sit on the soafa togetehr (under the granny blanket) and he watches a film while I ripple along beside him. Haven’t yet mastered crocheting and watching tv simultaneously, I have to look at my hook all the time or else it does daft things.
Hope the ripplin progresses well, I’ll be checking back for an update!

Am smiling broadly here. In this “lovebird household” he is in the living room watching the telly. And I am in the spare room at the computer. It will soon be time to go knit a few rows however - knitting a couple of rows while seated in from the the TV makes it seem like we have spent the evening together.
Happy crafting,
Janey
