Beautiful Butterfly’s.

March 20th, 2008

Thank you to all the lovely ladies who entered the Easter Egg Hunt, it was loads of fun to do, and from your comments to play as well.  The winners are Pam, Meri and Marie, congratulations girls and thank you to everyone who played.  Your gifts will be in the mail shortly.

Earlier in the week I was blog hopping over at Two Lime Leaves and was fascinated by Kirsten’s post on paper Butterfly’s.  I was instantly inspired and found myself planning colours and frames and who can I make a gift for!  I rushed to the local craft store on my way home from work and as luck would have it they had the exact Butterfly punch that I wanted.  $24 later that baby was mine.

I spent the entire evening sorting papers into lovely colour groups and then (block your ears quilters) cut up a Handmade magazine and used the pictures of quilts as my Butterfly’s!  Then it was off to buy frames, where else but Target.  They have the best range of picture frames and they also sell the shadow box type which were perfect for this project.

Thanks to Kirsten I now have my Mum and two sisters sorted for birthday gifts, oh and one for me too!

I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful Easter, the long weekend can’t come soon enough for my punch’n'me!

Happy Easter and make sure you eat lots of chocolate eggs!

Maddy, they’re gorgeous girl. I could go all gushy about just how beautiful they are. I don’t do too much with paper and scissors anymore - but you’ve tempted me. Don’t know if I could come close to what you’ve created, but I’d be willing to give it a shot.
Now I must say: Target???? Are you talking about the store that has the red bullseye for a logo? Mercy, girl! I didn’t know they made it all the way to Australia. Target started here, in Minnesota. I thought they’d gone “big time” when they moved to the Southwestern US. Will wonders never cease? (Shaking my head….I lead an all too sheltered life.)

Wow, these look so beautiful! I can’t decide which one I love the best.. very clever idea :O)

Maddy they are fantastic, what a brilliant idea. You could easily make a seasonal display like that…. flowers in the summer, autumn leaves in the fall etc.

Oh Maddy, these are sooooooo beautiful! I just love the whole idea and the way you put them together and chose the colours.
What is it about collections of objects, rows and rows of them? I had a fascination as a child with the pull-out drawers in museums that held row upon row of insects just like this, but also rows of buttons, pebbles, shells, leaves, I love the combination of order and subtle variation, it makes me feel calm somehow.
Ok, off to check out two Lime Leaves now, thanks for such an inspiring post!

What a wonderful idea! You could also use the paper butterfly to mimic a small pot that Crate and Barrel sells. They have a white pot with a small white butterfly perching on it but you could make a great spring gift by buying a terra cotta pot and painting with your color of choice and perching one of your own butterflies on it. You may want to coat the butterfly with modge podge though to make it a bit more durable.
