The pampered pooch!

March 10th, 2008

I spent yesterday getting perfectly pampered, from the top of my head to the very tips of my toes.  My wonderful girlfriend Jo had this brilliant idea to invite eight of her friends, including lucky me, to come over to her place for an entire day of pampering.  We each brought something delicious and healthy to eat.  Lots of lovely wine and champagne, CD’s and DVD’s and of course chocolate and deserts.

Jo also invited a tall handsome masseur, a beautician with magic hands and the amazing Amanda to spend the day giving each and every one of us full body massages, 1 hour facials, and pedicures and manicure, all while we sat back and relaxed.  How utterly and totally indulgent are we?  We began the day with a wonderful breakfast accompanied by delicious champagne and orange juice, Harry Connick Jr. playing in the background and lots of girly chatter.

First up was my one-hour facial.  The room was gently lit with candle light, the air was filled with the aromatic scent from an oil burner and the haunting music from a Chakra Meditation CD gently played in the background.  My facial was so relaxing I could have fallen asleep, the aromas of Lavender creams and gritty textures from the exfoliants all combined with those wonderful healing hands made for a facial from heaven.  And she didn’t stop with my face, my neck and shoulders were treated to a gentle massage and then she gave my hands a wonderful scrub with more exfoliant, then smothered in soft creams and wrapped in hot towels.  The hour ended all too soon.

Lunch was a combination of homemade focaccias, Greek salad, spinach and fetta filo pastries and pastitsies filled with ricotta cheese.  All washed down with a sweet white merlot.  I finished off my lunch with a cherry and cheese strudel from a recipe Jo got from the wonderful TV show Food Safari.

We then put the DVD Hairspray on while some relaxed in Jo’s Jacuzzi and others had their feet and hands buffed and painted.  Then it was time for my one-hour head to toe full body massage.  I have to say at this point that I was a little apprehensive, I’ve never had such an intense massage before.  I’ve heard stories of how they massage your muscles so deeply that it hurts and that’s really not what I wanted to happen.   I’m given one of those big white fluffy robes and asked to strip to my nickers and hop up on the massage table.  The lights are dimmed and the oil is warm and oh my goodness me what a wonderful hour!  The masseur started with my back and neck and then slowly worked his way down to my feet then back up to my head.  Words can not explain just how amazing it all was.

Thank you Jo for such a lovely relaxing day and please put my name on the list for next year.

So if you have a group of hard working friends, invite them over, put on some lovely music, light the oil burner and organise a couple of specialists to give you all a day filled with pampering.  I’m sure all your friends will thank you for many months to come.  It really is quite easy to arranging your very own day spa in the comfort of your own home and far more affordable than going to the real thing.  Contact a local beauty school and I’m sure they will give you the names of students who will be eager for the work and the money.

Have a wonderful week everyone.
