One of the things that Melbourne is famous for is the Queen Victoria Market. It is a huge market in the centre of Melbourne and sells all manner of things, from clothing to jewellery, from fruit to fish and everything in between. I probably go once a year and more if we have visitors from overseas, and if I need shoes well then I go even more.

The atmosphere is loud and busy, the third generation fruit vendors calling out their specials, the fishmonger selling off what’s left of the days catch and the general noise from people discussing what they are going to buy.
My sister and I set off at 8am on Sunday morning to be there nice and early and get a car park before the crowds arrive. First up it is compulsory to stop for a coffee from one of the many Coffee Baristas in the food area, accompanied by a plate of Dutch Pancakes smothered in strawberry jam, topped with fresh cream and then sprinkled with icing sugar. Hmmmm I can taste them as I type.

There are about 20 sheds to browse along and the first thing that caught my eye was a lovely butterfly necklace carved from a seashell. My girlfriend, “Jo the Nurse”, turns 21 yet again today and she just loves butterflies. Cha Ching, this is then followed by several more Cha Chings.
My sisters and I burst into laughter as we see a stall filled with umbrellas all sporting “Shit it’s raining” on them. Many more stalls are ooh’d and aah’d over, especially the shoe stalls. I made so many mental notes about which shoe stall I would return to next month to buy my winter work shoes that I should have just noted “see all isles from A to Z”.
We have journeyed to the marked today so that my sister can exchange some underwear she purchased without getting fitted for and consequently didn’t fit. The stallholder is lovely, even if her husband does tend to leer a bit, and gives my sister a proper fitting. While my sister tries on every bra in the place several bras that take her fancy, I notice one stunner that I can’t take my eyes off. Now I’m not one of those girls that like to wear cheeky undies, never have been and probably never will be. I choose all my underwear based on comfort and comfort alone; in fact I have worn your good old Bonds for many years. But when I spy this lacy, RED, very Oh La La bra, I just can’t stop myself. The next thing I know I’m in the fitting room, gear off and the straps are being adjusted. This bra is soooo soft and soooo comfortable I just have to buy it. What will the neighbours think when they see this flapping about on the washing line?

Needless to say my husband had a rye smile on his face when he saw my purchases and made no mention at all on how much I spent.
I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful week.

So comming home with very pretty and only a bit racey underwear is the key to smuggling in all the other contraband unnoticed or without argument! I will definitely have to try that!!

What a great market. The ones near here (apart from a monthly farmers’ market) are full of rubbish. And as for that piece of red underwear - you go girl!

LOL Jo, do tell your Mum when you speak to her that she MUST go to Vic Market. She can get all her genuine Aussie Souvenirs there (made in China ha ha ha!) Kidding

Ooh lala on the red bra! I miss the market we used to frequent when we lived up in Chester. There is nothing comparable down where we live now. I know, I know . . . there are lots in London, but I loved having one just a short bus jaunt away. Those pancakes look gorgeous! I am on the hunt now for the recipe!
