Many of you may recall that I have been looking for a living relative on my family tree named Sandra. After many months of searching I’m so happy to report that I’ve not only found Sandra, I’ve chatted to her on the phone! It’s all thanks to Marie over at Marie’s Muses who suggested I try Genes Reunited. I signed up for a free account and then entered the details of the person I was looking for. I got a couple of hits and sent off emails asking if we had relatives in common, some replied with a “sorry no” and one of them never replied at all. On the weekend I tried again re-emailing the one I didn’t get a reply from. To my amazement the very next morning I had an email in my inbox titled “Sandra has replied”, along with a request to call her on the phone. I quickly checked the UK time and called to find it was indeed “my” Sandra. We had a wonderful long chat and will be keeping in touch from now on. I can’t thank Marie enough and I will be popping her a thank you gift in the mail.
On Tuesday I had my stitches painfully ripped gently tugged from my ear, and the best news of all that my pathology test came back all clear. My son, Bailey, wasn’t very keen on the ugly black stitches and when he saw my ear for the first time after they had been removed said “oh your ear is really pretty now Mum”… bless!

More good news today with the arrival of my “Jamie at Home” cook book. I have really enjoyed his Jamie At Home TV shows, he’s such a spunk (Aussie slang for good looking person) and his advice and recipes are incredibly good. This weekend I guess I will be cooking up a storm with my new yummy cookbook at hand and the latest harvest from my garden.

Tomorrow heralds the end of summer for all of us in the southern hemisphere, yipp yipp yippeeeeeeeee! I love autumn so much, it’s not just the beautiful colour of the trees, it’s the cool mornings and the chance to get outside now that the days have cooled down. I’m looking forward to the weekend and getting stuck into the garden, it feels like months since I put on my wellies and spend some time in the sunshine. There is so much to do out in the garden, lots of plants have become scruffy and overgrown and the veggie patch is ready to be dug over. Bring it on!
I hope everyone is enjoying a fine week.

hi Maddy - so glad your tests came back clear and your stitches are out! It must have been a very worrying time for you! Well done for finding “your Sandra”, your persitence seems to have been rewarded well!! I hope you enjoy getting out into the garden and doing a bit of that “Jamie at home” thing!! I dont usually manage to watch TV all that much - but when I get chance I do enjoy watching Jamie in his delightful garden and charming “home” kitchen! Strange as I usally dont like cookery type shows!

I am thrilled Maddy that you were able to find your Sandra and that your tests came back clear! That’s a real answer to prayers! I love that Jamie Oliver book, Jamie at Home. The series is pretty good too. I was fortunate enough to meet Jamie a couple years ago. He really is a nice and cheeky chap, very friendly. His wife is also very pretty, much prettier than she looks on the telly. I think the reason Jamie at Home is so appealing is because it’s got more than just cooking in it. Have a wonderful weekend!

How very exciting Maddy. Where does Sandra live? Still in West Yorkshre?

Jo, Sandra is just outside York, so she didn’t go too far and is still in the north.
