Nicholas enjoyed his first day at high school. I did what most of my friends were doing and sat around worrying all day. Not that I had a single thing to worry about, after all we went to a lot of trouble to select a school with high standards, it’s not like the school is full of bullies and drug pushers! It was just me being a little bit melodramatic.
This second week of my holidays has not been as creatively productive as the last but I have been a cleaning, throwing away, dusting maniac. With Bailey back at school on Wednesday and then Nick yesterday I was free to get into their cupboards and run-a-muck! I can’t believe those boys had collected soooo much junk! Next week I will have the house to myself and plenty of time to do all those things I love like ironing, scrap booking, washing clothes, watching Oprah and catching up with several old friends for lunch.
Now, I’m sure most of you feel the same way that I do about reading blogs that just go on and on complaining about this, that and the other. I like blogs to be a little inspiring, funny or interesting rather than miserable. There are, however, times when I feel I must put my two-bob’s worth in and have a good whinge about something that’s been driving me nuts. So to avoid becoming a horrid blog filled with misery I’m adding a new segment called “Whinge of the Week”! I’ll limit these entries to one per week and not go on too much. There may be profanity so if you feel this may offend turn away now. Also I’m inviting anyone who feels they need to get something off their chest to go for it in the comments section.
So without further ado I give you “Whinge of the Week”.
Is anyone else sick to death of hearing about Britney Spears? I’m fed up with turning on the television and seeing headline stories about how this wealthy, spoilt brat, who changed her white Mercedes for a black one because the white one kept getting flat tires, is once again off to re-hab or the lunatic asylum. For the-love-of-a-good-man there has got to be something else happening in the world that is far more news worthy than watching this girl self-destruct.
And lets not stop at Britney. Why do we have to hear about losers like Corey? The stupid teenager who advertised his house-party on You Tube and had 500 unruly teens turn up, trash his parents house and the neighbourhood before raging against the police. All done while his poor parents were away on holiday.
And Wayne “the wanker” Carey! Who f*@%ing cares what he does? I certainly don’t after he went behind his teammates backs and screwed their wives. Once again a person who had it all, the professional football player once regarded as the greatest player of all time. He is nothing but a big fat loser. The only good thing about Wanker Carey is that he took Corey off the front page!
And don’t even get me started on Ben Cousins…
My final whinge is about the way in which Hollywood and the paparazzi have trampled all over the reputation of Heath Ledger. Why can’t they bloody well just leave the boy to REST IN PEACE? His family are grieving the loss of their wonderful, talented, beautiful son and the media feel it’s somehow their responsibly to trash his reputation. I don’t care what he did in his private life; it’s none of anyone else’s business.
Ahhhhhhh I feel so much better now that’s off my chest. I do realise that by blogging about these losers I add to the frenzy but I just had to get it out! So now it’s your turn, if you have something you would like to say about any of these people or you have a whinge of your own, please feel free to rant and rave as much as you like.

Oh, Maddy! I fear you may have opened a can of worms. But I will take this opportunity to vent as you did. As for Britney (and the others, too, I guess), just how much of what goes on in their lives is anyone’s business? I don’t need to know that she locked herself in a bathroom and had a meltdown. I prayed for her that day. Why the press seems to think we’re interested in all this garbage is beyond me. There must be a population of people that I have not come in contact with that the press is flinging this garbage at. I have no idea who they are, but they must be out there somewhere demanding this information. It’s beyond me why they would care, however. I wouldn’t want to be living in a fishbowl for the world to know all my weaknesses as the rich and famous do. For my part, all I can do is avoid watching programming that involves the gossip trash, and I don’t even bother with gossip rags. I see no value in them at all. I have enough to do with my own life. If there was only some kind of warning message when the “gossip” was about to be broadcast over the airwaves. “Beep. Beep. Beep. You are about to be inundated with total nonsense.” Remember the OJ Simpson fiasco??? Dear Lord! What a nightmare. I better stop now before I ramble even more.
Take care and enjoy your free time….

Hi Maddy
I must say that I am amazed and sad to learn that you also get all the hollywood papparazzi rubbish in Oz!! I thought it was just here in Blighty that Ms. Spears was front page news - almost constantly. I dont buy newspapers anymore but in the newsagents the front pages are plastered with the latest celeb meltdown or break up and gossip and our “news” on tv and radio is full of it. There seems to be no escape and like Pam I have yet to meet anyone else who is interested. I wonder if there is jealousy fuelling some of it - you know “they have all this money and fame etc. but look at the mess they are in”. It is very, very sad and in Ms. Spears case it is her children I worry for.
How lovely to have some holiday while the children are at school!!! Good luck with the de-cluttering!! When I used thin out the clothes and toys for the children when they were smaller, I was convinced that the clothing was shrinking overnight and the toys multiplying - where does all the “stuff” come from??? I dont recall buying all this???……… You will feel sooooo much better with your rant in the open and then lovely tidy cupboards and drawers! Cleansed!!

Hope you are feeling better after your winge Maddy. I just think how desperately sad for the likes of Britney and I don’t think giving so much publicity helps but the papers and media love a dramatic story.
Congrats. to Nicholas on entering his new school. Sending best wishes to him.

I just popped over to say a big thank you for the lovely comments that you have left on my Flickr page, and discovered you are ranting about what I have been silently seething about for quite a while. I always wonder how much of these peoples troubles is caused by the media themselves, the constant hounding. There was a photo of Britney on one of our British papers the other day, The paper was makeing a ‘plea’ for her to be left alone and yet presumably their photographers would have had to follow her to get the photo!
Well done to Nicholas going up to high school, very grown up.

phew! thanks for the whinge warning! I am pleased to say that i have no idea who most of the people you rant about are - they are completely unknown to me - but I am sorry for Heath and his parents - he was such a lovely lad - and there is no doubt that the ‘industry’ contributed to his death - if he had just been a (good looking ) plumber he would still be with us today.
you lad looks a treat in his school uniform - ahhh

Whew! That felt good to read your words and realize it’s not just me who feels this way. I am so sick of hearing about/reading about spoint rich famous people who are far too over paid for what they do and how they are ruining their lives, crashing and burning. There are far more people out there deserving of the attention and for much better reasons!
