It’s been a week filled with emotions.Â
Tuesday saw both Nicholas and Bailey go for their annual JuJitsu grading, along with a huge dose of anxiety. Both boys achieved new rank, Nick is now a brown belt and Bailey moved up to a junior orange belt. As Lee is one of their instructors it’s always a little more stressful as he wants them to do well. Anyone who has tried to teach their own children will tell you it’s not easy and your children tend to think you will be a little easier on them when in fact the opposite is true. So the early part of the week saw Lee and the boys practising for their gradings, Lee giving instructions left right and centre and the boys ignoring him as “they know better”! By days end all three were happy chappies and next week at the presentation night they will receive their new belts.

On Thursday night we attended Nicholas’s primary school graduation. Another evening filled with lots of different emotions, pride, happiness, sadness, disappointments and just a touch of heart ache. The children are all presented one at a time, all the while a giant screen projects photos of them from birth to today, it’s a great idea and raised quiet a few sighs and lots of laughter. The ceremony includes a number of awards for high achievement, sadly they all went to the same children one after another. There were at least 20 awards given out on the night but they were shared between only a dozen children.  I can’t understand why the school only recognise those that are popular and good at sport. It was very much a “teachers pet” event and some very deserving children missed out on awards all together. Nick’s not up there with the high achievers but he did have a good night, he described the night as “awesome” and Lee and I were very proud of our son. Sorry about the blurry photo, I was using a night setting on my camera to pick up as much light as I could but you have to have a very still hand which was impossible without a tripod.

Friday was frantic at work. We have two ATM machines as we are located in a busy shopping area, both were Out Of Order! With our usual customers came all those who had wanted to use the ATM machine, understandably grumbling about the machines being “yet again” out of order and having to cue. We all kept our smiles and worked as quickly as possible to get them out the door, by midday the machines were fixed and order was restored. Â
After such a busy day the last thing I wanted to do was rush home, *frock-up and put my face on* but with our Christmas party starting at 7pm it had to be done. I relaxed for five minutes with a coffee and a mince pie while catching the news headlines and then it was time to dive into the bathroom for a mini-make-over. I emerged glamorous and ready to party.
Â
We had a wonderful evening at a local club enjoying a three course meal, wine, dancing and a visit from Santa. We had a really great nigh catching up with all the girls and their partners, tripping the light fantastic and just a few glass’s of Brown Brothers!!

This morning I woke to rain, beautiful rain, a husband off at work, two content boys watching Saturday Disney, what more could a girl ask for? I hope everyone enjoys a weekend filled with wonderful celebrations and ask that you all take care on the roads.

What a beautiful sky. I got an awesome one this week also. So you have had an emotional roller coaster of a week Maddy. Glad the boys got their belts. I just got a tripod for my birthday and it is fantastic to be able to take night shots. After the sunset I took one of the street lights in the dark with the tripod. I have posted them.
Hope you have a good week.

Lovely night-time photo. I have not had much success with night photos myself, but then I am a tecchie moron! One of these days I really must take out the book about my camera and read it! Very nice picture of you and your husband! What an attractive couple you make! Congrats to the boys!
Have a great week!

Merry Christmas to you all and congrats to your boys on the achievements.
At school we had prizes for high achievers, but also prizes for those who had worked the hardest, or made the most personal progress, that way everybodies efforts were valued. Gosh, I’d be so annoyed by what your school did, very unfair, scoring high in school is only a tiny fraction of what matters in life. Sometimes school can really frustrate me that way!

I can understand your feelings about the boys’ teachers completely. My last job was in a school which recognised that students achieve in different ways and staff made sure that each and every one was congratulated for something, even if that was just about turning up every day. You both look really happy on your night out. Have a very merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy and peaceful 2008.
