Welcome to spring time

September 1st, 2007

Well what  a week it’s been, the sun has shone and shone, it’s been beautiful weather to end winter, yeah.

My week began with a trip to the new high school Nicholas will be attending next year for his uniform fitting.  I now need to sell all my worldly goods in order to pay for the aforementioned uniform $906 no less, which by the way does not include winter pants … yikes!  I must say that he looked so grown up once he was in the shirt and tie, jumper and blazer oh what a handsome lad he is.  I was going to take a few photos but there were other boys having their fitting and I didn’t want to embarrass him too much, the ooohs and aaahs were quit enough.

Later in the week we were treated to a luna eclipse, the sun, earth and moon all aligning to create the most amazing blood moon.  It was all scheduled to happen at around 8pm.  We stood in the freezing cold night air, binoculars in hand, eyes raised to the heavens only to see large white clouds block our view of the partially eclipsed moon.  We were so disappointed, so inside we went and put the timer on for 15 when we would come back out and see if the clouds had gone.  Well we were not disappointed.  15 minutes later and the sky was as clear as ice, the moon was this beautiful rose red.  And so we stood outside for over half an hour, shivering and marveling at the wonder that is this amazing planet and its solar system.

Friday and we morn the loss of Diana, Princess of Wales.  I had so much to say about her, but no words would come out so I just put up her photo which to me says it all.  She was a naive young girl, marrying a prince she so clearly loved, only to find he was in love with another.  I had the hair cut, the high collar dresses, the shoulder padded jackets, oh so 80’s, she was just beautiful.  The wedding dress that only a princess could wear and the two son’s so handsome.  And it really was just a fairy tale, behind the facade there was betrayal, lies and sadness and it all ended so tragically. Not a very nice fairy tale.  So I’ll remember her as a beautiful women and mother who lived her life under a huge magnifying glass and still maneged to capture our hearts.

And so to the weekend.  This morning I am off to Baileys presentation day at Auskick.  He is so excited and looking forward to getting his Saturday mornings back ha ha ha, little does he know I have plans for him!

This afternoon I will be going to a baby shower, my first in many years.  My husbands nephew and his girlfriend are expecting their first child.  This baby will begin a new generation for our family and the first born Dunster with a 2000 birth date, how exciting.  I have been racking my brain for a gift and came up with a *Nappy Cake* … a nappy cake I hear you ask.  The only explanation is to show you a picture.  It’s just a packet of nappies wrapped in ribbon and then stacked up in layers to look like a cake … but here it is in all it’s glory.

OK I’ll be off and wish you all a wonderful weekend.

I hear you about the school uniforms! I just spent an ungodly amount on the girls’ uniforms. At least here (unlike in SA) there is some wiggle room in the uniforms - eg they can wear any black trousers, any white shirts etc. But the items that are unique to the school (the jumpers, for instance, that have the school’s name embroidered onto them) are ridiculously expensive for what they are.

I love your tribute to Diana. I went to the funeral 10 years ago - well slept out on the street near Hyde Park with Jamie who was only 8 then. It was very sad.

That ‘Nappy Cake’ is a great idea - think you might have started something!

Thanks for the Diana tribute. I was planting a garden the day she died and heard the news on the radio while rushing down to the local nursery for more plants. When I came back hubby had it on t.v. (he was hoping the footy was on) and I remember just crying. How could someone who had, and was, helping so many people be allowed to die? We still call that little garden, the ‘Diana garden’.

So your winter is coming to an end and we still have ours to face. I do hope you will not feel sad for too long. I was a great Diana fan and even dreampt about her once but I also realise that there were 2 sides to the story. Such a sad tale all round.

If I try to link back to your blog from your comments it comes up with Page not found. Fortunatelfy I do have a book with the site names of my favourite sites so I can then get to you.

Is the nappy cake your idea?

The nappycake is hilarious … please may I copy the idea for my best friend who is due in November?! Perhaps I could do a different sized nappy on each layer …. but lets leave out the chocolate!
Another friend in Canada had to do a game where a chocolate bar was melted in the microwave, placed in a nappy, and had to be eaten with hands tied behind the back!!!

  7. Baby Shower Game Idea

It seems to me that Welcome to spring time would have more to do with Baby shower game idea than just about anything else. Hello from the US please give a little more detail for us \’dunderheads\’.
