TEN!!

August 4th, 2007

My baby has turned 10, he’s ten, he can’t be ten but he is TEN, double digits … sigh!

Ten years is such a long time, so much happens in ten years, governments change, millennium’s pass, jobs come and go as do friends, baby’s become boys and boys go to school.  Cots become beds, tricycles turn to bikes and blankies become doonas.  Teeth grow, fall out and even bigger ones grow back.

When I look back to the day Bailey was born I remember it clearly.  My water broke at 7am as I awoke on the day he was due, perfect timing.

I spent the morning calmly getting Nicholas ready to go and stay with his grandparents for a couple of days, did some washing and then the dishes.

We went to the hospital at 10am and met up with friends who were also expecting and then the long wait began.  No more contractions for hours and hours.  The nurse said I had to start walking around to bring them back, so we walked and we walked and we walked.

Dinnertime came and still nothing.  My parents visited, Nicholas ate my hospital-dinner omelette and at about 6.30 they all went home and Lee headed off to get himself some dinner … at the very moment he walked out the door it all began.

In the short space of time it took for Lee to go to the local Chinese I went from 3cm to 10cm … and by 7.20pm taaa daaa … a beautiful baby boy!  I can’t recommend a 40-minute labour, and I will spare you the details, but it was short and the baby was very very sweet.

When Lee phoned my parents at 7.30pm to say we had a baby boy they could hardly believed him as they had only left an hour or so earlier and I was fully dressed and walking the halls … how quickly life can change.

And so here I sit, ten years later having had the most amazing ten years of my life.  It has been filled with love and beauty, laughter and tears and challenges I never imagined I could face and win.

Thank you Bailey for these ten, wonderful years and Happy Birthday.

Bailey
