Mid-year resolutions.

July 7th, 2007

Recently I have been fascinated by The Secret and the philosophy that if you give off positive thoughts and energy and believe that you only need to ask the universe for what you want then you will receive those very things.  I do believe that, much like a child will make a list for Santa and in most cases receive some of what’s on the list, I too can make a clear and concise list of what I want and get it.  In the past I have put in writing my New Year resolutions and more often than not at least some of the things on the list have happened or come true. And reasoning that mid year I probably lost sight of the list only some of the things happened, had I just stayed focused maybe all of the things would have come to fruition.

I can recall a few years ago on New Years day declaring to the world that I would find a new job and plan a family holiday…. by years end I had found the new job and been on the holiday.  I was very clear about the job, it had to be part-time, with a starting time after 9am so that I could drop the boys at school and preferably local.  Following a very bizarre series of events I did indeed get a part time job, starting at 9.30am within 30 minutes of home.  We also went on our first trip interstate.

I can also recall as a young 16-year-old girl making a list in the back of my diary, you know the type with the dodgy lock and a holly hobby picture on the front. The list declaring that I wanted a glomesh purse, jeans and a corduroy pinafore hmmmm nice!  A few years later I found the diary and re-read the list, I recall being surprised that I did indeed get the gold glomesh purse, the Eastcoast jeans and my Mum made me a dusty pink corduroy pinafore!

My oldest memory of this phenomenon was in my first year of high school.  My Mum insisted I wear black lace up school shoes, I hated them so much as every other girl in my class was wearing trendy leather sandals called Scampers.  I can remember spending hours wishing that I had those fantastic sandals, dreaming and visualising myself in them. One day, out of the blue, my Mum came home from work bearing gifts … a pair of Scampers for me.  I was the proudest girl on the school bus and that memory has stayed with me ever since.

In light of all of this I am going to make a mid-year positive affirmation (in other words a list) of all the things I wish to achieve by years end.  I will give the list all my positive energy. I will even make a picture board of these things so that I can visualise them.

And so with all of my positive energy I declare that by years end I will have

~Saved $5000 for Nicholas’s school fees, books and uniform.

~Made the two leadlight windows for my TV unit. (We’ve had the unit for 4 years now so it’s time!!)

~Had my car repaired and serviced.

~Built the pergola and garden arch.

~Finished out garden beds and paths.

Ok that’s enough for now, I’ll save winning a million dollars on lotto for next time and project all of my positive energy into this more realistic list.

If you’ve had a similar experience with positive affirmations or making lists and seeing them come to life I’d love to hear about it, just leave me a comment.  I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

As post script to this my board is up.
