My eldest son Nicholas has turned 12 today, happy birthday my love.

I can still remember the day he was born as if it happened just yesterday.  Friday the 9th of June 1995 and I had been feeling twitches all day, by 7pm I had resigned myself to thinking our first born would not be arriving any time soon as the twitches had all but stopped.  Out of the blue came a feeling no no it was a pain like nothing I had ever experienced in all my life.  By midnight we were at the hospital and being settled into a beautiful birthing suite with the radio on and the lights down low … almost sounds romantic were it not for the moans and groans and just a little heavy breathing into the gas mask.

By 5.20am we had a son, Nicholas …  Lee and I were over the moon with joy.

Luckily for us it was a long weekend and we were graced with visitors all weekend.  The gifts, flowers and balloons were just endless and wonderful and I felt like I had just landed in heaven so filled with happiness and joy.

12 years on and I am still filled with such love and happiness each time I look at this wonderful young man emerging from the boy we call Nick.  I thank God every night in my prayers for blessing me with such a wonderful son.  He is so like me that I almost know his very thoughts and I can feel his presence in the room or sleeping in bed, we are joined by some invisible yet powerful bond that only a parent feels for their child.
